I’ll be totally honest. Last night Jon and I ALMOST broke our 21 day No Sugar, No Sweat challenge. We were both craving chocolate really badly last night, dreaming of ice cream sundaes and hot fudge and maybe some Ferrero Rocher chocolates that taste like heaven…
But we didn’t.
Before giving up sugar, if I was craving something for more than an hour, my rule was to just go ahead and eat whatever I was craving. I figured, better to eat what I actually want, than overeat on something else and still want what I originally wanted in the first place.
Sounded logical, right?
Well, it was kind of a sneaky way for me to always get what I wanted to eat, whatever I was craving.
I knew subconsciously that all I had to do was keep the thought of those French fries or scoop of Nutella in the back of my mind for an hour and then it would be mine!
I was doing absolutely nothing good for myself in terms of eating healthy and curbing my sugar addictions – in fact, I was fueling it, each time giving in and rewarding myself with food.
It’s not just a mental thing either — mind over food cravings. It’s a real honest-to-God addiction. A real detox is NECESSESARY to be able to get to the place I am now, when even though I might be craving chocolate (and I have some great sugar-free chocolate recipes to curb those cravings) I know I don’t need it. It’s doing nothing for me or my body.
Before beginning my sugar-free journey starting with a 21 Day No Sugar, No Sweat Challenge, I wouldn’t have been so convinced. But because I know how I FEEL off of sugar, my energy is level and constant, my mind is clearer, I sleep better, and overall just feel… normal. And losing 8lbs in my first No Sugar, No Sweat Challenge didn’t hurt either!
If you’re thinking about taking the plunge and saying sayonara sugar for 21-Days and maybe (gasp!) longer, join me. We can do it.
Today, I made more of those Buffalo Turkey Bacon Egg Cups… because well, Jon, ate them all! So the double batch I made today should last us until… tomorrow 🙂
I’ve got more on the menu tonight to test since it’s the weekend and that’s always a reason to celebrate! A faux-caccia bread and a meat-zza. Stay tuned!
P.S. Shout out to Jennifer who has lost 11 pounds so far on the 21-Day No Sugar, No Sweat challenge!!! We’re only 13 days in! I am so proud and excited for you!!
