This burger tastes leaps and bounds better than the stuff you can get in a drive-thru. The ingredients here make all of the difference in this clean-eats burger.
- 1/4 lb ground beef – 90% lean
- Salt and cracked pepper to taste
- 2 leaves of romaine lettuce
- 1 slice sweet onion
- 1 dill pickle (sandwich slice)
- 1 fried egg
- 1 large turnip root
- 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp garlic powder
Preheat the oven to 450 degrees. Cut the ends off of the turnip root and peel the skin. Next, using a big and sharp knife, cut the root into fries. Place the cut fries into a mixing bowl, and add the extra virgin olive oil, salt and garlic powder. Spread the fries onto a baking sheet, leaving space between the fries. Let cook in the oven for fifteen minutes – then flip the fries so that they cook on the other side.
The fries will need another fifteen minutes on the other side, taking them out when they are golden brown – more darker than lighter will turn out best for these roots.
While the fries are in the oven, take out your ground beef and form a patty. Sprinkle with salt and pepper on both sides. Using a cast iron pan, spray with an olive oil spray and let the pan heat up. Add the patty and flip after ten minutes or so, letting cook for another ten minutes after flipping.
Check the inside of the patty for desired color. I like mine rarer, so you may need to cook longer as desired. In a separate pan, spray with olive oil and crack an egg whole. Cook over easy, adding salt and fresh cracked black pepper after flipping.
To start prepping the plate, grab two long pieces of romaine lettuce and layer on top of one another, with the leaves facing the opposite direction. When the burger is done, add the patty on top of the lettuce, then top with the egg. Add one slice of sweet onion, a pickle, dollop of our homemade ketchup, and wrap the lettuce around the burger. When the fries are done, plate next to the burger with ketchup. Enjoy this lip smacking and hearty burger!
